Outlook does not connect to O365

The assistant from Microsoft promises support for problems such as

  • Outlook can not be started
  • I can not set up my Office 365 email in Outlook
  • Outlook continues to ask for my password
  • Outlook will continue to display "Connecting ..." or "Disconnected"
  • Shared mailboxes or shared calendars will not work
  • I am having problems with my calendar
  • Outlook stops responding
  • I can not send, receive or search e-mail messages
  • Outlook crashes again and again

If an Outlook 2016 is now installed, it may happen that it can not connect to O365 to set up the mailbox.

Here, the intervention in the registry could help.

Office 365 (Exchange Sharepoint) relies on modern authentication and as fallback we used the Legacy (Basic Authentication or the Login Wizard).

With this registry entry we turn off the modern authentication on the client from the beginning.

But if I set the value to 0000001, then the modern Auth is tried first and then the legacy authentication.
